From Superhero to Supervillain

I find it so disappointing when a hero becomes a villain.

Following the complete destruction of his home town, Coast City, by the villain Mongul, Hal Jordan descends into madness. He destroys the Green Lantern Corps, killing his friend Kilowog, and all of the Guardians, except for Ganthet. The Guardians, realizing that their cause is lost, give all their remaining energy to Ganthet, who becomes the sole Guardian after this energy transference resulted in the death of the rest of them. Hal takes all the energy in the Central Power Battery, and when he emerges from it, he has a new costume and takes the name Parallax, becoming a supervillain. To restore Hal Jordan to heroic status, DC retconned Parallax/Hal Jordan's attempt to recreate the universe as being motivated by an effort to resurrect the dead and bring peace to the world. Hal eventually sacrifices his life to reignite Earth's sun after it was nearly completely eaten. His soul not at peace, Hal then became the new Spectre to seek redemption for what he did as Parallax.
